According to CTV News, the Federal Liberal Government of Canada is attempting to introduce a bill banning “Conversion Therapy.” According to the CTV News article the legislation would,

prohibit unwanted religious counselling seeking to change a person’s sexual orientation to heterosexual; gender identity to cisgender; or reduce non-heterosexual behaviour, nationwide.

One area of the bill would also prohibit, “Advertising an offer to provide conversion therapy.” They made it clear in the article that people could still voluntarily enter into conversations with religious leaders if they are “exploring” their sexuality. However, who is the one discerning what is conversion therapy and what is not?

In 1st Corinthians 6, the Apostle Paul lists “practicing homosexuals” as those who will not inherit the Kingdom of God. Literally in Greek, he identifies two types of individuals, the passive person in a homosexual act (μαλακός – Malakos) and the active person in a homosexual act (ἀρσενοκοίτης – Arsenokoites) in verse 11 he says,

And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

1st Corinthians 6:11

Paul is letting us know there were some in Corinth who were actively engaging in homosexuality who were no longer living that way. To suggest that a person can change their “sexual orientation” will probably not get you arrested in Canada under this legislation. However, to stand on a street corner and share with a homosexual that Christ can set them free from their unnatural desires, could, by some radical LGBT legislators, be considered an attempt or an advertisement for “conversion therapy.”

There are many blurry lines here. What if I were to tell a homosexual that if they come to Christ He can change their desires? I feel for those who have had horrible experiences with so called “conversion therapy.” However, for the government to legislate the kind of authority to be able to, quote, “seize conversion therapy promotional material and order it removed from the internet…” Is quite frankly, tyrannical!

Again, who is making the call as to what “conversion therapy promotional material” is? 1st Corinthians chapter 6 could very well be classified as such. It is promoting the idea that homosexual persons can experience a radical conversion away from homosexuality!

Justice Minister David Lametti said,

Conversion therapy is premised on a lie, that being homosexual, lesbian, bisexual or trans is wrong and in need of fixing. Not only is that false, it sends a demeaning and a degrading message that undermines the dignity of individuals,

Actively living as a homosexual, lesbian, bisexual or transgender is wrong and is in need of fixing. The premise of conversion therapy is very much true. However, some practices of conversion therapy are no doubt abusive and harmful. I am not saying all conversion therapy is wonderful. However, the underlying idea that it is a dangerous and sinful lifestyle that should be shunned by those with the inclination is very much true!

Behavioural modification, abusive and forced therapies to “change someone’s sexual orientation” are not helpful. Only the GOSPEL can change someone. Only the death and resurrection of Jesus has the power to transform someone living in the unnatural lust of homosexuality. It’s not any man made therapy, it’s just Jesus. And as the Apostle Paul said, “Such WERE some of you…” But did you catch what he said after that? “But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

Ah ha! There it is. The Apostle did not say, “you went through our conversion therapy sessions.” He said, “JESUS WASHED YOU!!!” Hallelujah. There is a conversion, that the tyrannical Canadian Government could never legislate out of existence, it’s the conversion brought on by the Lord Jesus Christ.

While the world descends further into the chaos of LGBT ideology, let the Church of Jesus Christ stand as a beacon of uncompromising truth. LGBT lifestyles are sinful, they are wrong, they are abnormal, but Christ has come to shed His blood for the sinful ones. The homosexual can be washed in the blood, sanctified and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, just like the murderer, the liar and the thief. He is able and He will!!!
